Stehli Freres, Editeurs, Zurich: Series 234: No.6, Water Color

Hi all, so I need a little help.   Recently I was given a water color. I’m trying to find out more about it. I’ll post a few pics and if anyone knows anything, please drop me a line.  I know that No.6 means 6th one made. What I need is painter and best estimated date.

If anyone has any info, I would be very appreciative. So far, Google hasn’t been much help.

  1. Hi, I have a print from the same people. Series 100 No.18. It was given to my father-in-law by his father in 1930. Only just staring to search. Denise

  2. Wonderful. So far, since this blog was posted, I did find out that it depends on the number displayed on the back of the painting, as to how far down the line each particular copy was made. I found mine to be a copy, but early on. And I could only find one website with info and it’s in another language. Google couldn’t even seem to sort it out for me.

  3. Hi, I have a print with the following information: Serie 1021 No. 168 Lago Maggiore, Isola Bella, sbocco sul lago, A. MARC, plnx, Copyright, Stehli Freres S. A. Editeurs, Zurich…Printed in Switzerland Imprime en Suisse. Artist is difficult to read but starts with Mar???

  4. So far, I was only able to find a small bit of info on them.

And from what I read, the No. is what order it is printed in the line. Like N0. 3 would be the 3rd copy out. The price range is anywhere from 5-100$ . It could be more based on what the print is of.

Everything else is another language. While I did take French in highschool, it’s been a while! LOL

  5. I have a Louis van der Steen print #1360 Rhododendron that is copyright by S F E Zurich. Can anyone tell me anything about this print?

  6. Yes…been quite a while now. It’s rather become an Internet scavenger hunt…..and the use of Google translation tools has come in handy.

  7. glad I’m not the only one having trouble getting accurate info. when I ask dealers they play dumb or low ball me hoping to resell for a big profit. I got lucky and won tickets to antique roadshow 7/9/16 and am considering taking my print for appraisal, will share results. It’s a Da Vinci print of the Lord’s Supper, limited edition #388, printed in Switzerland, Stehli Freres,-editeurs-zurich; I know it was in my Grandmothers house in the ’50’s, and old then, I suspect it is pre WWII; any info would be appreciated before I go to roadshow in Indy. if’s common and less than $100 like the guy above said, I may take my 1903 model 1 Smith or turn of the century winchester model 97 to Roadshow instead, they only allow 2 items. thanks for your feedback
