SEO Writing Basics

SEO Writing. What exactly is it? Simply put: SEO writing is the art of inserting key words and phrases into an article. And by ‘key words and phrases’, I mean the words typed into the Google search engine. Google uses algorithms to determine your content and it’s relevance on whatever the subject may be. These key words and phrases have the ability to optimize your site and give it higher rankings within a search engine.

For instance  if I’m looking for information on my cat’s health, my search phrase would be ‘cat health’. When I type in my phrase, Google will show me a list of sites on proper cat care and how to keep track of my pets overall health. Proper SEO writing,  would have included the phrase ‘cat health’ throughout their article.

In some situations, the phrase may not flow. Let’s say a person is looking for a heart doctor in Cleveland. They may type in (cardiologist Cleveland). And inserting that phrase into an article  repeatedly, can sound rather off-putting. In this case, realize that Google doesn’t always look at the punctuation in the article. So you could phrase (cardiologist Cleveland) in several ways, still combining the words as a phrase. For instance: “If you’re looking for  a   well skilled (cardiologist, Cleveland) is well known for…..”

At the same time, you can bog down the article with ‘too much’ SEO writing. It’s called over-optimizing. More then 10 times, is too much. And it may drop you in the rankings.

Tips for SEO writing:

  • Consider your audience
  • Create a flow. Don’t just pop the phrase in there.
  • Reread your article several times. How does it sound?
  • Add your keywords and phrases as you go along, or after. It’s like Lego building. Which block goes best and where?
  • Practice your key phrases. Insert random keywords into Google and see what pops up. And when reading your article, try to imagine which words you would type in to find it.
  • Include the key phrase in the title and html.
  • Interview experts. Being able to direct quote experts on the topic  is extremely helping at driving traffic to your site.
  • Try to get at least 300-500 words in the article.
  • Advertise your article. Put your link up on as many blog friendly sites as possible. LinkedIn, Reddit and StumbleUpon are well known for this. And they work!

In closing, SEO writing is a way to optimize your site in the search engines, driving more traffic in your direction.

Just because it’s hilarious…

This was at Tower City in Cleveland, Ohio. Included are photos of the Cleveland Public Square Ice-Skating Rink. But the true comedy was the Choo Choo Train.

As a giant toddler at heart, I  wanted to ride the Christmas train with my kids.  My daughter is  a teenager, so I naturally had to force her. And…it went well…yeah ok. She’ll probably run away screaming the next time I ask.

Just keep replaying it…for some reason it gets funnier :D:D (For the record, that isn’t my kid in the back…I have no idea whose kid it is…but the whole thing was hilarious. Just a little guy, enjoying the trip!)

…the ENTIRE trip…. Click here for the Instagram Video. It will open in a new window. WordPress may not allow the EMBED feature without premium, but I still want you guys to see it.

If you don’t see the video below, just click the link above. And keep scrolling for the pics of Tower City and the Public Square Ice-Skating Rink.

33 Amazing Sculptures From Around The World

33 Amazing Sculptures From Around The World

I’m smack in the middle of the biggest artist’s block known to man. I’ve got  canvas, acrylics, oils, brushes etc…and my mind is blank. This is typically when I Google search ‘madness’, so to to speak. Randomly typing in the first words that come to mind. The ‘images’ feature, by far, is my favorite Google feature. Today’s search was so fascinating, I feel the need to share. Maybe it’ll help you with your artist’s block, inspire a novel or just help you unwind. Today’s search : Odd Sculptures

Which ones are beacons of hope, fantasy and illusion? Which ones are the artist’s amazing rendering of their waking nightmare?  You decide.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m either sleeping with the lights on tonight….or grabbing a bowl of popcorn and watching Stephen King movies…but I’m definitely inspired.

DIY Pottery Barn Hacks

As much as I’d love to toss aside $50 like it’s nothing, I would be doing myself a huge disservice. I like Pottery Barn and IKEA as much as anyone else, but money is money. You’ll get it away from me, when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

You know what they say: Necessity is the mother of invention…or in the this case, ‘wanting’ and ‘frugality’. But before we go any further, I want to be clear…decorative items are just that…DECORATIVE. They serve a visual purpose only. I’ve often shook my head in disbelief at the large sums of money that people throw away to essentially STARE AT AN OBJECT! Appliances, bedding etc…of course, buy new and with a warranty. But to look at something across the room?! What a waste.

Here are a couple of items directly from the Pottery Barn website….

The vases above,  have the same appearance of candle holders glued to bowls. Obviously, their’s is one piece, but you can accomplish the same look for 2$ and some  hot glue.

00000000000000

p3

Admittedly, they are lovely…but  I’m cheap!

So here’s what I did for a Valentine’s theme vase.

Two Dollar Store vases

15873583_1378138405553936_6274130695206964505_n
Fill with Dollar Store fillers.

I also frequent local Thrift-Stores. Stay away from fabric items that can retain bed bugs. Everything else, you can scrub in the garage prior to entry. Bed bugs can also hide in the crevices of dressers. So be  wary. Those are items you have to bite the bullet on, but can often find fabulous sales if you do your homework.

Today’s find was just what I was looking for! Two tall candle sticks.

15780762_1378223942212049_8168599998414479714_n

A side note: These candle holders were $1.40  each at the Thrift-Store.

Here’s the average price on Google’s Shop Search:

(Remember, it’s about the ‘look’. These are decorative items.)

I sincerely believe…Hot Glue is the answer to all the world’s problems.

15826015_1378223905545386_1489053733593242404_n15780926_1378265615541215_5272982246651281782_n

Have fun with it. Every now and then grab a couple items. Keep in mind your overall theme. And never pay full price. You’re paying for a label. I’ve never gone into someones home and started looking at the labels on the bottoms of their decor. Nobody does that, unless of course…they lack manners. (Or it’s your best friend, then by all means…share you money saving tips!)

Here was a fun one I did last night….Clearly I have Valentine’s Day on the brain. With this many hints literally right in front of him,  hopefully  my husband will remember it!

On a side note: Those adorable 3-D hearts, came from  Pat Catans. They were $2  and already had built in foam tape on their backs.

Most of us already own stuff that we can up-cycle or refurb. Take a look  around. What are you sick of looking?  Give it a fresh new look. And check out the Flea Markets, Thrift-Stores and Dollar Stores, before you spend your hard earned cash.

While I enjoy the look of the ladder, paying $249-$429 to enjoy the look of the ladder…is nuts. Buy some wood at Home Depot and knock yourself out. Obviously, they don’t need to be sturdy. They are decorative.
